UP Technical University was established in May 2000. There are 427 colleges affiliated to UPTU and around 2,25,000 students are studying under the university, among which 204 are the engineering colleges.

    Keeping quality and academic excellence as a key mission of UPTU and playing the role of a facilitator in nurturing quality amongst its affiliated institutions, the UPTU Academic Excellence Award Model was developed and implemented in the year 2007. 

This award Model is based on various aspects of performance :

1) Excellent results with respect to Performance, Customers, People and Society are achieved through Leadership driving Policy & Strategy, People, Partnerships & Resources, and Processes.

2) It consists of six elements namely Commitment, Academic processes, Resources, Motivation, Academic results and Placement. The first three elements are enablers and the last three are results.

3) In the very first year of this award, KIET was awarded ‘Star Performer Excellence Award’ and this year KIET has been awarded ‘UPTU Academic Excellence Award 2008’.
