About
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) was established to develop essential qualities among the youth, such as Character, Courage, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Sportsmanship, along with the ideals of Selfless Service. Its aim is to nurture students into responsible citizens and prepare them for leadership roles in various fields, including the Armed Forces. The NCC also provides opportunities for students to engage in community service, teamwork, and disciplined activities, helping them grow both personally and socially.
Initially open to both school and university students, the corps started with a small number of 32,500 Senior Division and 1,35,000 Junior Division cadets. Today, its sanctioned strength exceeds 12 lakh cadets, reflecting its national importance. The NCC gained an inter-service character with the addition of the Air Wing in 1950 and the Naval Wing in 1952. While Junior Division cadets receive elementary military training in schools, Senior Division cadets in colleges are prepared as potential officers. NCC training was made compulsory in 1963 following the Chinese aggression but returned to voluntary participation in 1968. Overall, the NCC plays a vital role in fostering discipline, patriotism, leadership, and social responsibility among Indian youth. Our Pledge :
- We, the cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), do solemnly pledge that we shall always uphold the unity of India. We resolve to be disciplined and responsible citizens of our nation. We shall undertake positive community service in the spirit of selflessness and concern for our fellow beings.
